About Tax Calculator
Income tax is usually charged in brackets (slabs): each portion of income is taxed at its own rate. This makes the tax on a salary harder to work out by hand. The Tax Calculator applies the brackets for you and shows the total tax, your effective tax rate, your take-home pay and a breakdown of tax in each bracket.
It includes the salaried individual slabs for Pakistan, and you can enter your own brackets to estimate tax for any other country or tax year.
When to use it
- Estimating monthly take-home salary in Pakistan.
- Comparing job offers after tax.
- Understanding how a raise affects your tax.
- Modelling tax under another country’s brackets.
Tips for better results
- Enter annual income — divide the take-home result by 12 for a monthly figure.
- Moving into a higher bracket only taxes the extra income at the higher rate.
- Check the official budget or tax authority website when the rates change each year.
How to use the Tax Calculator
- Choose the tax brackets: Pakistan salaried (Tax Year 2027) or your own.
- Enter your annual income and any tax-free allowance.
- See total tax and the breakdown by bracket.
Frequently asked questions
Which Pakistan tax rates are used?
The salaried-individual slabs for Tax Year 2027 (1 July 2026 – 30 June 2027) from the Finance Act 2026: no tax up to Rs 600,000, then 1%, 11%, 20%, 25%, 29%, 32% and 35% above Rs 7 million. They apply when salary is more than 75% of taxable income.
Can I use it for another country?
Yes. Pick "Illustrative example" and edit the brackets, or edit any preset — tax rules differ by country and change every year.
What is the difference between effective and marginal rate?
Your marginal rate applies to your last unit of income. Your effective rate is total tax ÷ total income, which is lower in a progressive system.
Is this tax advice?
No. It is an estimate based on the brackets you enter and does not include credits, surcharges or other deductions. Check with your tax authority.
Does this include deductions or tax credits?
You can enter a tax-free allowance. Other deductions, credits, surcharges and withholding adjustments are not included, so the result is an estimate rather than a final tax figure.
Why is my effective rate lower than my bracket rate?
Because only the income above each threshold is taxed at the higher rate. Lower portions of your income are taxed at lower rates, so the average (effective) rate is always below your top bracket.
