How do I remove GST from a price?
Divide the GST-inclusive price by (1 + rate). At 18%, 118 ÷ 1.18 = 100, so the GST is 18.
Are the rate presets up to date?
They are common rates for convenience. Rates vary by product and change over time — always confirm the rate that applies to your item.
What is the difference between GST and VAT?
They work the same way — both are value-added taxes charged at each stage of supply. Different countries simply use different names.
Why does removing 18% GST not reduce the price by 18%?
Because GST was added on the net price, not the gross. A gross price of 118 at 18% contains 18 of GST, which is about 15.25% of 118.
