About Remove Extra Spaces

Double spaces, spaces at the start or end of lines and extra blank lines make text look messy and can cause problems in code, spreadsheets and forms. Remove Extra Spaces replaces repeated spaces with one, trims lines and removes surplus blank lines — while keeping your line breaks.

Choose whether to trim each line, treat tabs as spaces and remove blank lines, then copy the tidy result.

When to use it

  • Cleaning text copied from PDFs and websites.
  • Fixing double spaces after full stops in old documents.
  • Preparing lists and data for spreadsheets.
  • Tidying code comments and configuration text.

Tips for better results

  • Turn on “remove blank lines” only when you do not need paragraph breaks.
  • Use Duplicate Line Remover next if your list also has repeats.
  • Use Text Cleaner for invisible characters and HTML.

How to use the Remove Extra Spaces

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Choose whether to trim lines, treat tabs as spaces or remove blank lines.
  3. Copy the tidy result.

Frequently asked questions

Will my line breaks be removed?

No. Only spaces within each line are collapsed. Blank lines are only changed if you tick the blank line options. To merge everything into one paragraph, use the Text Cleaner.

Are non-breaking spaces handled?

Yes. Non-breaking and other Unicode space characters are treated as normal spaces and collapsed.

Should there be one or two spaces after a full stop?

Modern style guides recommend a single space. Double spaces came from typewriter days and are no longer needed with proportional fonts.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.
