JPG to PNG

Convert JPG photos to PNG for lossless quality — ideal for images you need to edit further or that need a transparent background.

Runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded

About JPG to PNG

JPG is great for photos, but every time a JPG is edited and saved it loses a little more quality. Converting to PNG stores the image losslessly, so it will not degrade further when you edit, annotate or save it again.

The conversion is done in your browser. Note that PNG files are usually larger than JPGs, and converting does not restore detail that the original JPG already lost.

When to use it

  • Editing an image several times without further quality loss.
  • Preparing images for design tools that prefer PNG.
  • Adding text or annotations that must stay sharp.
  • Uploading to sites that only accept PNG.

Tips for better results

  • Keep the original JPG for sharing — it is much smaller.
  • Use PNG to WebP later if you need a smaller web-ready version.
  • To get a transparent background you also need to remove the background in an image editor.

How to use the JPG to PNG

  1. Drop your JPG image.
  2. Click Convert.
  3. Download the PNG.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so the converted file won't have new compression artifacts — but the JPEG compression already applied to the original is baked in and can't be reversed.

Is the file uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser using the Canvas API.

Is there a file size limit?

The limit is shown in the drop area (typically 30–50 MB per image). It exists only to keep your browser responsive — the file is processed on your device and never uploaded. Very large photos are faster to process on a computer than on an older phone.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

Not automatically. JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same background. Transparency has to be added by editing the image.
